"The forms of Tango are like the stages of marriage. The American
Tango is like the beginning of a love affair, when you're both very
romantic and on your best behavior. The Argentine Tango is when you're
in the heat of things and all kinds of emotions are flying: passion,
anger, humor. The International Tango is like the end of the marriage,
when you're staying together for the sake of the children" ~ by Barbara
Garvey, Smithsonian Magazine
The idea for the Denver Single Dancers sprang from an experience of
mine while living in the Portland area several years ago. There was, at
that time, a group of swing dancers that formed an organization called,
as I remember, the Alternative Swing Dance Club. It was essentially a
phone list of singles that liked to dance.
Each member of the group had a copy of the phone list. Some of the more
adventurous members of the group took it upon themselves to organize a
Dance Night Out or some other social activity.
Over the years, this group of people formed strong, life-long
friendships. They enjoyed each others company, not only on the dance
floor, but also at restaurants, movie theatres, backyard barbecues, and
other kinds of gatherings. My hope for that group is that they are still
together, still strong, and still active.
The Denver Single Dancers hopes to emulate that successful model by
using the internet as apposed to a phone list.
In the future, and as time and funds allow, the Denver Single Dancers
hopes to host its own dances, workshops, and classes.
